[GMS] This Month In Our Past: February [2013 Edition]

Is Lunar New Year anything to woo about? Nah, not in GlobalMS. Maybe in ChinaMS or MapleSEA, but not GlobalMS. Ooo! Valentine’s Day! Nah, nothing super special. Events and more events? Unless they’re super awesome events then we’re not that interested.  Neo City, Kerning Square and Golden Temple? Hmm, not that bad. The return of Crimsonwood Keep  PQ? Awesome!  But the awesomeness and hype was quite short lived.

Client Version Update: 0.34
Game Update Name: –
Game Update Date: Wednesday, February 7, 2007

-Guild Quest
-Valentine’s Day Event
-Lunar New Year’s Event

In February 2007 the awaited guild quest finally made it to Global MapleStory. The guild quest was one of the biggest additions to MapleStory at the time as it provided in-game entertainment other than the constant grind that players were subjected to at the time. This was also one of the first ways (and first official way) for guilds to be ranked against each other.

February 2008

Client Version Update: 0.51
Game Update Name: –
Game Update Date: Thursday, February 14, 2008

-Valentine’s Day
-Lunar New Year’s Event

Just after the addition of what I believe is the most innovative update in Global MapleStory history, the 4th job advancement, and while preparing for the addition of Horntail and Monster Carnival, Nexon took a break. February 2008 saw only the activation of (boring) Valentine’s Day and Lunar New Year events.

February 2009

Nexon took another break in February 2009 when they skipped the month. The January update was on January 22 and the March update was on March 5.

February 2010

Client Version Update: 0.83
Game Update Name: “Year of the Tiger”
Game Update Date: Monday, February 22, 2010

-Kerning Square Mall
-Neo City
-Website Launch
-Improved Quick Slot
-Dimensional Mirror
-Improved Inventory UI
-Episode One: Now Open to Everyone!
-Episode One: Change level to start quests, added Astaroth’s Polearm
-New MTS’able Items
-Hunter’s Luck Event
-Bug Fix

This was the biggest February update to ever hit Global MapleStory. Although it had some unwanted content, it was still big and its content had provided entertainment for many maplers since it went live. The Hunter’s Luck event gave trainers a big EXP boost also.

February 2011

Client Version Update: 0.95
Game Update Name: “Birth of the Mechanics”
Game Update Date: Wednesday, 19 January 2011

We didn’t receive a game update in the month of February 2011, but some events which were implemented in the Birth of the Mechanics update on January 19 were activated during this month. These events were the Valentine’s Day events (Feb. 9-Feb. 22) and the Golden Temple (Feb. 23-Mar. 22). The AfterShock game update was added on 10 March 2011.

February 2012

Client Version Update: 0.95
Game Update Name: “Alliance Rising”
Game Update Date: Friday, 3 February 2012

OMG CWKPQ! The return of the Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest an eternity after it was removed from the game. The “slightly” less important hero class revamps, theme dungeon revamps, the new Silent Crusade and Arkarium also came this month. Some minidungeons also went through map design and monster changes.

February 2011 also saw some pretty decent Valentine’s Day events which included an interesting NPC love rectangle plot.

  1. This is under “History Lesson”?

Does this mean your actually a history teacher and your going to explain the history of MapleStory to them in school?

K, Mr. M****. I’m making sure I get that teacher.

  2. I boo also at Lunar Year . Not for non-chinese players from MSEA.

    • Yeah I always thought MSEA should have bigger Lunar New Year events like CMS does due to the relatively high population of Lunar New Year celebrators playing MSEA.

      • Well our Lunar New Year event only just kill the 2 Chinese Lion aka Dong Dong Chiang something at certain intervals of time (for example every xx:15 and xx:45) and rewards kinda meh for me. Only things worth to be mentioned for reward are EXP Happy Ring , Miraculous Chaos scroll , and primal essence. others are kinda lame, i guess. Not to mention that event always give trait items and elixirs , but also the event can be categorized as semi-cash event (better rewards with purchasing CNY ticket) .

Well, for some reason , Asiasoft is racist. Only stressing more on chinese race players than non-chinese race players. Thats why MSEA get ZEN instead of Silat Master (100% related with Singapore and Malaysia history and culture)

  3. I have to say, great job Rich and Zach on the Year of the Snake update note page. I really like the design of the banner, Tot (the guide kid) and the girl with the hear shield and the stirge. Really good job! I mean, that banner looks so awesome! With previous banners I always knew like “ooh this picture is take from the CHaos trailer and the modified”, but this one .. well… it got me all confused! I know that all those poses of Ds, Canoneer and all others have been used over 20 times, because there are only so many poses you people have of those jobs, all you do is rearange them. But for some reason it felt really fresh for me :).
Great job! Maybe the best banner and update page until now!
