Welcome to AcornStory, our ongoing feature helping players get started in Maple World – everything from choosing a class to finding friends to understanding combat to tips for participating in an online community. MapleStory is easy to learn, but once you learn the basic game mechanics, where do you go and what do you do? Read on to find out!

Sometimes when change comes, it comes so fast that it can be hard to take it all in. Big Bang and the Chaos updates brought some incredible changes to Maple World. Now, with the addition of the Silent Crusade and their Crusader Codex there’s a way to track the monsters you have defeated in the ever changing Maple World! That’s not all. You can get all kinds of great buffs and information that will help you in your journey as well!

Are you ready to fill up your Codex?

Opening a Book Full of Monsters

The best part of filling in your Crusader Codex is that there are no requirements in getting started. Every adventurer, starting at level one, is automatically given a Crusader Codex. To open it, simply hit the Codex key (Default: [N]).

The first page of the Codex tells you how many cards you’ve collected; the page after that starts with the lowest level momonsters in Maple World. Monsters grow stronger as you flip the pages. Once you’ve picked up a monster card, clicking on its image will open up to two pages filled with information about the creature. If you click on the image of the monster before picking up its card, only the bare minimum information will appear.

Before you head out into the wilderness though, let’s take a look at the different parts of the Crusader Codex.

Home Tab: Clicking on the Home Tab will always bring you the opening pages of the Codex. These display the total number of cards you’ve collected and the first 25 of the Category 1 (Red Star) cards. (Read on to find out more about the stars and cards!)

Set Tab: Once you have collected a full set of monster cards, the Set Tab becomes clickable. Clicking on the Set Tab brings you to the Set List page. These pages display the various card sets you can collect along with the rewards for obtaining them.

Total Cards Collected: This total shows you the total number of monster cards you’ve collected compared against the total number of cards in the game.

Cards by Level: Creatures in the Codex are divided up by level. Each level range is indicated by a particular color star. The area below the Total Cards Collected indicates how many cards of each level range have been collected versus the total number of cards available for that level.

   Colors:

             Red: Level 1-15 monsters
Orange: Level 16-30 monsters
Lime: Level 31-45 monsters
Green: Level 46-60 monsters
Sky Blue: Level 61-75 monsters
Blue: Level 76-90 Monsters
Purple: Level 91-105 monsters
Black: Level 106+ monsters

X: Click this at the top right corner to close the Codex.

Search: This box at the top right side of the book allows you to search for a particular monster.

Color Tabs: The colored stars with numbers will let you easily navigate through the Codex to find the monster by level groups.

Monster Pictures: The pictures will be black and white by default and become colored upon collecting the corresponding cards. Click on these pictures to look up the information on particular monsters.

Arrow:
Click on an arrow to page forward or backwards among the monsters in the difficulty tabs that you have unlocked.

Filling In the Book

When you first click on any monster in the book, you will find that the information page on that monster is blank except for their location. To fill out the information on that page, you must hunt the monster in question. Each and every time you kill a monster of that type, there’s a chance that the monster may drop a “monster card.” When you pick up the card, all of the other information about that monster is automatically filled in. In order to completely fill out your Codex, you must collect a card from each monster.

This is the information that is displayed for each card:

– Monster image

– Monster’s hit points and mana points

– Monster’s weaknesses and the monster’s background

– A list of treasures that the monster might drop when killed. This is an extremely useful feature if you’re looking for particular items.

– A list of the locations in Maple World where the monster can be found

Set Lists

As useful as monster cards are, you can get even more bonuses by collecting card sets! You can view what sets are available by clicking on the Set Tab on the monster book. The set pages will display various collections of monster cards that when complete, constitute a “set.”

The Victoria Island Friends Set for example, includes four low-level monsters: the Snail, Blue Snail, Red Snail and Shroom. Once you’ve found all the monster cards in a set, you can select that set’s bonus. Each completed set has its own unique bonuses and you can switch between sets at any time!
