This Month in Our Past: July

July’s edition of This Month in Our Past has finally arrived! I apologize for the lateness.

July. Summer. Big Updates. July is my favorite month of the year because it always brings big updates. From the first ever Day of Darkness, to our favorite massive swimming-pool-in-the-ocean in Maple World. Empress Cygnus began recruiting her defenders on the world and a new class arose from the darkness. But the biggest July update of them all: The opening of the great MASTERIA.

July 2005

Client Version Update: 0.05
Game Update Name: –
Game Update Date: Thursday, July 14, 2005

– Summer Items
– GM Events

The first ever GM event look place in July 2005. It was basically the Day of Darkness with all the summoning around popular towns in Maple World, except it wasn’t called Day of Darkness back then.

July 2006

Client Version Update: 0.26
Game Update Name: –
Game Update Date: Wednesday, July 26, 2006

– Beginner Skills
– Aqua Road
– Relaxer (chair)
– Other game feature updates

A big update indeed. Even more significant is the fact that this update was the precursor to the August update which included one of the greatest training areas in Maple World for years and a fearsome new boss, Aqua Dungeon and Pianus. The beginners showed us that were no force to be reckoned with when they were entrusted with the amazing and powerful new skills, Three Snails, Recovery and Nimble Feet. When us Maple World explorers got tired, we took out our Relaxer chairs and had a nice rest. The game also went through a feature update adding to the gameplay convenience that the game was released with.

July 2007

Client Version Update: 0.40
Game Update Name: “A Brave New World”
Game Update Date: Thursday, July 26, 2007

– New Leaf City

Greatest. Update. Ever. The one. The only. Masteria! -cries- It’s so beautiful. Now if only we could continue the Masteria that we love and EXPAND IT.

A weird, wacky world full of colorful characters… and that’s just the mall! Welcoming NPCs, beautiful scenery, diverse new monsters and rewarding quests. NEW LEAF CITY. GLOBAL MAPLESTORY PRIDE!

July 2008

Client Version Update: 0.58
Game Update Name: –
Game Update Date: Wednesday, July 9, 2008

– Summer Events

Quite an uneventful July to follow the addition of the Nihal Desert and Ariant in June and the greatest update ever (-F3-) in August. What did we get in August? You’ll have to wait to find out. But if you think I made a big deal out of New Leaf City, wait until you see how I will talk about the August 2008 update.

July 2009

Client Version Update: 0.73
Game Update Name: ‘Cygnus Summer Knights’
Game Update Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2009

– Cygnus Knights
– Maker Skill
– Blessing of the Fairy
– Vicious’ Hammer Item
– New Skin Colors (Green and Pink)
– Elemental Wand Changes
– Many New Quests
– Maple Trading System (MTS) Tax change

Empress Cygnus started her recruiting of the great Cygnus Knights from her kingdom of Empress’ Road on the continent of Ereve in July 2009. In addition, the first self-item making system, the Maker Skill arrived in the town of alchemy, Magatia. The useful Blessing of the Fairy skill, popular Vicious’ Hammer item and much more were also added. Not all updates were welcomed, however, as the MTS went through a tax hike which has angered many maplers who used the MTS.

July 2010

Client Version Update: 0.88
Game Update Name: –
Game Update Date: Wednesday, July 21, 2010

– Dual Blade
– Chaos Dungeons (Chaos Zakum and Chaos Horntail)
– Follow System
– Item Potential System
– Item Drops increased (Equip)
– New Login Screen
– Dual Blade Events
– New User Events
– AP and SP Giveaway Event
– One More Week of Explorer’s Ring Event – July 21-27

Now this was a big update. The Dual Blade class arrived. Those owls that came with them were kind of annoying, but also mysterious, which in this case is a good thing. Global MapleStory received the extremely powerful Chaos Zakum and Chaos Horntail just three months after Korea MapleStory and long before any other service. The follow system allowed us to have so much fun as we stalked our friends around Maple World. The item potential system. I hate it, but the majority love it. Equips started dropping more from monsters, the server selection wall got a new look and more!

July 2010=huge.

And July 2011 we be ever huger! Age of Artisans with its professions. Age of Battle with its PvP. The Ice Knight PvP mode. It all comes this July so keep posted!
