More Server Merges?!

Reblogged from Maple-News:

Recently a thread was made about the decrease in population of smaller servers and how it would be greatly appreciated if a few of the servers were merged.

Most, if not all, of the comments agreed with the poster’s message. Here’s the author’s message directly from the forum post:

As of now, the smaller servers such as Mardia, Kradia, Yellonde and all of the new servers are having serious issues with under population.

There’s one thing that hasn’t changed, as gaming has gone from a console business to a Web business and increasingly to a mobile business: It’s always been massively hit-driven.

Like pulling the lever on the slot machine, an entrepreneur is always just one release away from a game that could make you a hundred million dollar company. (Just ask Dan Porter of OMGPOP…

This Month In Our Past: May [2012 Edition]

Before I begin with my monthly installment of This Month in Our Past, I’d like to say a huge happy 9th birthday to Korea MapleStory, the world’s first service. On Tuesday, April 29, 2003, the public was officially introduced to Maple World for the first time.

May is probably the biggest month for Global MapleStory (and me). Sure the content hasn’t been all that spectacular and some events have been huge let downs but it was in May of 2005 that the Global service of MapleStory was launched officially. One of the game’s most powerful bosses and quite a lot of excusive content  met us this month in our past. May is also my month of birth!

[SHA] Aeria Games To Continue To Publish Shaiya Online In Western Markets

Despite Nexon’s acquisition of the global right to MMORPG Shaiya Online in January 2012, the game will not follow the same fate as several other games which have been in a similar position. That is, the Western service of the game will not be transferring publishers from its current publisher to Nexon America or Nexon Europe. Aeria Games and Nexon Korea reached an agreement today which has Aeria Games continuing as the publisher of Shaiya in North America and Europe. The time frame for this agreement has not been made public.

Shaiya Online was launched by popular Santa Clara, California-based publisher Aeria Games in 2008 and has since become one of the best known free-to-play online games in the West. The official website is http://shaiya.aeriagames.com/. The company acquired the game portal previously operated by NHN USA, ijji, in early 2012.
